About Our Tournament and Shelter CanadaShelter Canada is an organization with its roots in Airdrie that has grown to include caring people from all across Canada with the same mission . . . to build homes and bring hope to the poorest of people in El Salvador.
In 2002, a men's team of 10 from Airdrie went to El Salvador and built 3 houses in one week. The task at hand seemed daunting! How would we ever make a difference? Over the years, God has shown us that through His work, making a difference would indeed be possible! By January 2019, Shelter completed their 3,000th home. The houses provide shelter and a home for families who have been displaced by natural disasters and civil war. The house recipients express their gratitude for the shelter and security the homes provide; but, more importantly, they express that their prayers and hopes have become realities. Each family that receives a house typically participates in the building of their home. They are so grateful and proud of their new house. The house materials are purchased locally from a Salvadorian company. Each team is responsible for raising the funds required for the houses as well as their travel and in-country costs. Ninety-five percent of all funds raised for Shelter Canada goes directly to the work in El Salvador. The remaining five percent is administrative costs for The Great Commission Foundation - the organization that administers all Shelter Canada’s funds. The Building Houses for Hope Golf Tournament in partnership with Shelter Canada would not be a success without your participation by joining us.
